Update to Membership and Motorcycling Community on Barbagallo Raceway

There have been some recent developments which we’d like to share which may help you to understand where things stand at Barbagallo and the resumption of motorcycling activities there.

Motorcycling AustraliMWAa and Motorcycling WA are committed to obtaining a return to safe rider training and racing at Barbagallo as soon as possible.

From the outset, Motorcycling Australia and Motorcycling WA endorsed the State Government-commissioned Hall Report as the standard for modifications to the track. MA/MWA’s position on this has remained consistent.

MA/MWA have been working all year to provide the necessary support to the WA State Government and the WA Sporting Car Club (WASCC), the operators of the track, to implement the safety modifications recommended by the Hall Report.

Despite this, WASCC continue to maintain that the revised MA Track Guidelines are required to complete testing and modifications at Barbagallo. This is incorrect. The updated MA Track Guidelines will align with the recommendations in the Hall Report. In short, compliance with the Hall Report will result in compliance with the updated MA Track Guidelines. This has been communicated to WASCC on numerous occasions.

MA/MWA are hopeful that the recommendations in the Hall Report and in WASCC’s Brake Report will soon be aligned. We are seeking further information from WASCC about what is being proposed to facilitate the resumption of rider training programs at Barbagallo as soon as possible.

Below is a link to a letter we sent to Minister Mick Murray and the Department of Sport on 13 December 2017 outlining MA and MWA’s recent actions and our clear position in relation to Barbagallo.
